How about portable photo players?

Wanting to read up on devices like the Epson P-3000 (Japanese-market name "Epson Photo Fine Player P-3000"), I came here. But I can't see anything like it. Moreover, this is a subcategory of Category:Digital audio players, which obviously wouldn't include devices that played photos and not music. (The Epson stores music -- and presumably stores Linux distros or gitmo-sop.pdf or anything else -- but I don't know or indeed care if it plays music.) Portable photo players? I don't think there'd be PPPs with the form of a PMP. I've checked, and the Epson P-3000 does play music. Real "PPPs" include the displays of digital cameras, keychain photo viewers, and digital photo frames. --Jw21/PenaltyKillah 16:45, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I suppose that would depend on what one takes as resemblance. It's true that these PPP are bigger and heavier than the PMP you're dealing with; on the other hand, they're similar in being smaller, lighter and cheaper than most computers. Also, photography is a medium. And on top of all that, this Epson thing plays music too (though clearly it's not designed to live in anybody's shirt pocket for the daily commute).

If "portable media player" has come to mean something very small used for playing MP3 or similar music files and perhaps also movies and even the net, it would be pedantic to insist that photos are media, these photo players are portable, and therefore that they must join too. (After all, walkmen, discmen, etc etc are portable and play media.) I don't want to screw things up and don't have an axe to grind. My personal problem is that I don't know much about the devices exemplified by the Epson, would like to read up on them, and don't even know the generic name for them (if such a name exists). I thought I'd find it by crawling around the category tree but was disappointed -- which isn't a complaint, merely an observation. -- Hoary (talk) 04:14, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I don't really quite get your request. The term "PMP" is mainly used to describe players with big displays... nowadays, it is also used for players that have the ability to playback multiple digital media. That means the Archos 605 WiFi would be the following: a digital audio player, a portable photo player, a portable video player, a portable Wi-Fi navigator, and so on... PMP would sum'em all up. Almost every new phone that cost more than Euro 70,- (appr. USD 90) can work has a portable media player. This category may be too generic. Andries (talk) 19:21, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
