Placement of species in this category

edit

This category is for articles about reptiles as pets, not just every reptile that may be kept by some people as pets. See analogous listings at Category:Animals kept as pets, Category:Dogs as pets, which do not list all species kept as pets, but specific pet-focused articles, like crickets as pets, lap dog, and companion dog, and not cricket (insect), German Shepherd, or Labrador Retriever. —Hyperik talk 17:44, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

The category Mammals as pets is contradictory to this statement. There is no rule for this category to simply be for that purpose then. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ddum5347 (talkcontribs)
@Ddum5347: Be careful of the three-revert rule on Wikipedia. It looks like you've reverted the category removal four times within a couple hours at boa constrictor.
Which articles are you referring to at Category:Mammals as pets? The only species articles that are included currently are domesticated mammals commonly kept as pets, though domestication is a questionable threshold for inclusion to me. Thanks to @DexDor: for pointing out some past relevant CfDs.[1][2][3] Some relevant points: "as with other similar categories, any non-extinct species can potentially be kept as a pet"..."this is not a defining characteristic" ... "Amongst Las Vegas magicians, white tigers are common pets but I don't think this is defining of the white tiger as species" ... "there are no pets evident in the categories, no pet breeds/strains, no individual pets" ...
An article "Boa constrictors as pets" would appropriately be in the category Category:Reptiles as pets. —Hyperik talk 00:21, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Then perhaps they should be made, if that's the case. Since all animals can theoretically be pets, it's not like my additions are random; they are reptile species that are very commonly had as pets, and have guidelines for owners. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ddum5347 (talkcontribs)
