editUtill the Pontificate of John Paul Ii a Roman Catholic couldn't be a member of the Satanist Freemasonry, called in this way because of its closed relation with the personal worship of the angel named Satan and in conformity to the definition of Synagogue of Satan made by Pope Pius IX in the encyclical Etsi multa. The Vatican website shows the Italian translation.
Coherently, the cCode of Canon Law has a provision for the immediate excommunication of any lay believer or exponent of the Roman Catholic hierarchy discovered to be a member of any secret sectarian society. Just not to limit the category to a very short temporal interval, it would be useful to rename it in Freemasons in the Roman Catholic Church.Philosopher81sp (talk) 07:51, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
One of the main reasons is to avoid a deceiving name, as if the two affilations -to the Body of Christ vs to the Body of Satan- could have become reciprocally compatible, whereas the immutable Magisterium had remained the same than two centuries ago.
