Miranda categorization

@Richhoncho: I know it's been a few days since you made this change, but I checked back and wanted to ask you about your last edit. Why do you believe that Category:Songs from Hamilton (musical) should be in Category:Works by Lin-Manuel Miranda rather than Category:Songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda? Some songs by Miranda are songs from Hamilton; all songs from Hamilton are songs by Miranda; it seems to be a straightforward subcategory situation. Is there something I'm missing? Several reasons, firstly the cat is not called Musicals written by L-MM so there is no connection with songs written by, For a comparison, there is no category, Category:Albums containing songs written by XXX. secondly people will look for songs written by L-MM and the songs written (as is songs by artist) is an all encompassing category where every song and writer should be, irrespective of other cats (there's something at WP:Categorization for you to read to confirm this). Seeing works by L-MM it was appropriate to add songs written by to the cat which is something I might not have spotted but for our discussion. --Richhoncho (talk) 17:16, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

I'm confused about your first point; which cat has no connection with songs written by? This category (Songs from Hamilton) is inherently a category composed of songs, not a category of albums or musicals. It's fine that songs written by is an all-encompassing category; the songs from Hamilton category should still be in it. (See, for example, Category:Songs from Rent (musical)/Category:Songs written by Jonathan Larson and Category:Songs from The Phantom of the Opera (1986 musical)/Category:Songs with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.) Also, it's not technically correct to have the songs from Hamilton cat in works by L-MM, since it's already in the Hamilton category (a sub-sub-category of works by L-MM).
