Misleading use of the word sustainable ?

edit

When I look at the contents of this category, I can't help but feel that this is a very watered-down concept of Sustainability. Some seem to use it as a synonym for all that is a little bit greener than the solutions commonly in use today. The term sustainability has got it's position in the vocabulary based on the use in the UN report Our common future, and the discussions at the UNCED in 1992. Since gaining popularity the term has been watered down. Writers at Wikipedia have a responsibility to help keep the distinct content of the term at loft. In short I doubt that the majority of the articles in this category are properly categorized. Another category with less strict definitions should be created, for instance "Greener technologies" That does leave out the development /Global South aspect, but those articles can probably better be accommodated within the present category. This category has had a lot of articles dumped in it that are not sustainable technologies. Books, projects etc are not sustainable technologies. I am cleaning it out at present. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 07:54, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
