Distinctions from similar categories
editThe following is based on a note that I left at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2017 October 28. It may be of further use.
Various similar categories about topics in fiction and culture were started by many editors without co-ordination, and have only been partly harmonised. Some follow distinctions along these lines:
- Category:[Topic] in fiction (top: Fiction by topic) covers novels, comics, films, TV and video games.
- Category:[Topic] in popular culture (top: Topics in popular culture) includes the above plus songs, non-fiction books, documentary films/TV.
- Category:Cultural depictions of [topic] (top: Cultural depictions of people) includes the above plus visual arts (e.g. Mary).
These patterns are, however, not consistently used in practice. – Fayenatic London 16:46, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
