Letter/s representative of the Hebrew alphabet

I wonder if shin is the right letter to use to represent the Hebrew alphabet in this user template I made. I tried alef at first, but I feel it didn’t look too distinctive, at least the way I saw it on my screen.

I recommend using ayin (ע). It is distinctive and is also the first letter of the word Hebrew in Hebrew (עברי)--El aprendelenguas 22:10, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

On a related note, I think user cyr made a good choice in using the letter ya.

Did not I see a hover text telling "Cyrillic alphabet". Then the template name is ... maybe misplaced in a language cat as "undestanding an alphabet" is a competence of many few. What is it's use ? Also, instead of "These users" (Is there something like user groups in WP ?) I'd put "This user". --DLL 18:38, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Once again, I'm at a disadvantage because I've never mastered the art of using foreign characters here (sorry Jack! I promise I'll try one one of these days!)

El Asparagus' (or whatever his name is (sorry, El aprendelenguas, learner of languages, just a bit of levity here!)) suggestion (עברי) is missing the letter (taff) at the end. To switch to an English transliteration, El aprendelenguas' suggestion, "Ivri" in fact does mean Hebrew, but more in the sense of the Hebrew "people" than the Hebrew "language". For the language you'd say "Ivrit".

In any case, my suggestion would not be the ayin (ע). Rather, would it be possible to just put the three letters "Aleph-Bet-Gimel"? It would be like putting "A-B-C" for English. That would seem more appropriate. Just a suggestion! Loomis51 02:07, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks guys for the suggestions. Taking from that last one, I thought I’d simply try writing alef-bet as Hebrew letters. Either way, anyone should feel free to change it anytime.
