Stop complaining and get behind the upgrades
editYou guys need to read Who moved my cheese.
1. We would have (and HAVE) ripped the WMF, if they didn't ship product. They need to do things, not spend years not doing so. Google gets stuff done. So does Facebook. So does MSFT. So do Ford, GM, DuPont, 3M, etc. etc. Heck even state and federal governments get things done. WMF needs to also.
2. Some of "you people" were complaining about the damned edit button moving to the side (which by the way, was a great, simple, change, to improve the layout of images). I mean...just...sheesh.
3. It's freaking voluntary. (But I sure hope it DOES eventually become good enough to be the only way. That's progress, people.)
4. It's really the one angle the WMF has to change/improve things. You know the Communitai will spend years debating and never change things (look at the just atrocious front page...and if you don't believe me, hire 10 print/web layout designers and see what they think about it...Bayesian bet.)
5. Yeah, the WMF lacks a real engagement in content creation and appreciation of it (Sue ain't Ben Bradlee or even Katherine Graham, let alone Voltaire or Webster or the like). But at least it gets their finger in the pie. Maybe the learn something. Or maybe the org morphs over time to be more Sanger-like (like actually having a thrill for the content itself, not Silicon Valley schemes or worse, Google-EFF-schilling).
6. Some of you people really DO have too much investment in "what I had to learn the hard way". Sound like upperclassmen wanting the pledges to get hazed. Or just not having your little tin, ephemeral, cyberpower waken.
7. Bottom line, this thing is for people who ARE NOT HERE NOW. Think about the newbies, the readers. Stick up for them against the Wikivets.
8. Look at a damned page in edit mode. MS Office has had better functionality for 20 years. We have the damned equivalent of Cray Supercomputers in our pockets nowadays. And we can't serve up an interface with the references as links? There are a gazillion people who could help this place...and they don't want to play Grace Hopper with punch cards to show how Old School they are.
