Clue: On Stage is a murder-mystery farce adapted from the 1985 film Clue, itself based on the popular board game. Sandy Rustin adapted Jonathan Lynn's screenplay for the stage, with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price.[1]

Development

edit

Clue: On Stage premiered at Bucks County Playhouse in 2017, starring Sally Struthers as Mrs. Peacock, Erin Dilly as Mrs. White, Kevin Carolan as Colonel Mustard, Brian J. Carter as Mr. Green, Clifton Duncan as Professor Plum, Lindsay Nicole Chambers as Miss Scarlet, Carson Elrod as Wadsworth, and Claire Simba as Yvette. It was adapted and directed by Hunter Foster, with additional material by Eric Price.[2] A national tour was slated to follow.[3]

The 2018 published version of the play credits screenwriter Johnathan Lynn, "with additional material by Hunter Foster, Eric Price and Sandy Rustin."[4] This revised version received its regional premiere at Cleveland Play House in early 2020, directed by Casey Hushion.[5] The show had a west coast premiere at La Mirada Playhouse in 2021,[6] followed by a production at the Paper Mill Playhouse in February 2022.[7]

National tour (2024)

edit

Directed by Casey Hushion, the 2024 national tour of Clue is based on the Paper Mill staging.[8][9] The Equity tour began performances in February at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota.[10]

edit

"...a witty, lighthearted, retro romp filled with colorful characters in a creepy old manor house — during a terrible storm, of course," said Laura DeMarco of The Plain Dealer.[5]

"...a very fun, very silly 1950s-set whodunit that strikes some contemporary parallels on the way to its grand reveal," according to The New York Times.[7]
