Courtney Brown (soccer)

Courtney Brown (née Talbot; born November 25, 2000) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for the Washington Spirit of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She played college soccer for the Utah Utes before being selected by the Spirit in the 2024 NWSL Draft.

Early life and college carerer

Brown was raised in West Haven, Utah, one of four children born to Brett and Meechelle Talbot.[1] In her youth, she attended soccer camps at Brigham Young University taught in part by her future Spirit teammate Ashley Hatch.[2] She attended Fremont High School, where she lettered in soccer, basketball, and track before committing to soccer.[1][3] She helped make it to the state championship match as a sophomore in 2016, scoring a game-tying goal before losing 2–1.[4][5] She focused on her club team during her last two years of high school.[3]

Utah Utes, 2019–2023

Brown was a five-year starter for the Utah Utes. She recorded 14 goals in 94 appearances from 2019 to 2023, including a team-high five goals in 2021.[1] She helped Utah qualify for the NCAA tournament in her freshman season in 2019.[6] She captained the team during her last three seasons, staying to use her fifth year of eligibility granted because of the COVID-19 pandemic to complete her master's degree in accounting.[6][7]

Washington Spirit, 2024–

Brown was drafted by the Washington Spirit with the 49th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NWSL Draft.[7] She was signed to three-year contract.[2] She scored her first professional goal to open a 2–0 defeat of NJ/NY Gotham FC on June 23.[8]

She married Camen Brown on May 7, 2022.[9]
