Cream Box

Cream Box (クリームボックス) is a Japanese sweet from Kōriyama, Fukushima. It is a sweet bread that originated in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. It is said to have been created in 1976 at the bakery "Romeo" in the city.

This sweet bread is made from a small, thick loaf of bread coated with white milk-flavored cream. In rare cases, the dough is circular. It is sold at many bakeries and schools in Koriyama City. The selling price is often around 100 yen.

It looks simple and doesn't look much different from regular bread when viewed from above. There are some that have almonds on top or a character 's face drawn with chocolate.

It is a very popular sweet bread in Koriyama City, and is widely sold not only at bakeries throughout the city, but also at supermarkets, convenience stores, and high school kiosks. It is popular due, in part, to its reasonable price.

On the other hand, it is rarely sold in other municipalities within Fukushima Prefecture, let alone in neighboring prefectures, and many people do not realize that Cream Box is a local food until they go outside Koriyama City.

It has become known as the local bread of Koriyama City. Since April 2016, it is known in the city as part of the town revitalization project through Cream Box.  In May of the same year, FamilyMart released an original product to commemorate Fukushima Prefecture's large-scale tourism project ``After DC" which stands for "Destination Campaign,''where it was sold at approximately 860 stores.

In addition, Pompadour, which has a store in Koriyama City, started selling cream boxes in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Additionally, in the TV anime series `` Flip Flappers, '' which began airing in October 2016, a character appears who loves cream boxes. In December 2018, a product combining Rakuo Cafe au lait and cream box from Rakuo Dairy Products in Koriyama City was sold at Family Mart stores nationwide, increasing its popularity.
