Club Deportivo Los Chankas CYC, previously called (Cultural Santa Rosa), is a professional Peruvian football from the province of Andahuaylas, in the department of Apurímac. Founded in 1989, it owes its name to the ancient Chanca ethnic group. It participated in the Peru Cup until 2015, when it reached the round of 16, a merit that allowed it to participate in the Second Division starting in 2016. Since 2024 it has been playing in League 1, thus becoming the first team from the department of Apurímac in history. that participates in the First División of Perú.

History

editLos Chankas was founded in 1989 under the name Club Deportivo Cultural Santa Rosa, after the Peruvian saint Santa Rosa de Lima. The club participated in the Copa Perú until they classified for the 2016 Liga 2 where they remained until 2023.
In the 2010 Copa Perú, the club qualified to the Regional Stage but was eliminated by Alianza Unicachi.
In the 2011 Copa Perú, the club qualified to the Regional Stage but was eliminated by Franciscano San Román and José María Arguedas.
In the 2013 Copa Perú, the club qualified to the Regional Stage but was eliminated by Franciscano San Román and Fuerza Minera.
In the 2015 Copa Perú, the club qualified to the National Stage but was eliminated by Sport Ancash in the Round of 16.
Second Division
editOn August 19, 2021, Cultural Santa Rosa changed its name to Los Chankas - CYC. The letters CYC are the initials of late club president Clodoaldo Yñigo Condori who died as a result of complications from COVID-19 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru.
On October 27, 2023, Los Chankas gained promotion to Liga 1 for the first time in their history after beating Alianza Universidad on penalties. Los Chankas became the first team from the Apurímac region to play in the Peruvian First Division.
Badge
editIts first shield would remain until early 2016, when the club was invited to participate in the Second Division of Perú, also changing its uniform, and would later have some additional variations in 2021 when the team changed its name to Los Chankas CYC.
