Daniel Norber is an American politician from Great Neck, NY. In 2024, he became the first Republican elected to a New York State Assembly seat in northern Hempstead, Long Island, in over half a century. He will represent the 16th district, in the Nassau County which includes Great Neck, Port Washington, and several other communities bordering Queens.

In the 2024 New York State Assembly election, he unseated Democrat Gina Sillitti.[1]

Early life and education

Norber was born in the United States and raised in Israel.[2] He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in government, diplomacy and strategy from Reichman University in Herzliya, Israel. His grandparents survived the Holocaust, and his mother escaped Communism in the Soviet Union. He moved back to New York in 2001.

Career

Norber is a veteran of the Israel Defense Forces.[3] He was drafted into the IDF at age 17 and served as a staff sergeant in the military police.[4]

In 2024, Norber decided to run for election after seeing the Anti-Semitism that occurred in the US after the Oct 7th Hamas led Massacre on Israel.[2]
