Daniele Groff

Daniele Groff (born June 7, 1973) is an Italian singer and songwriter. In his songs, there are musical influences typical of Britpop bands, particularly Oasis, whom he has stated were his major inspirations from a young age.

Biography

Early life and debut

Daniele Groff attended a specialized music high school in his hometown and graduated with a diploma in piano from the State Conservatory of Music. He later furthered his studies in the oboe and cello, earning intermediate diplomas in both instruments. His passion for Britpop inspired him at the age of nineteen to travel across the United Kingdom on his motorcycle. The event that sparked this journey across Europe was his desire to visit his ex-girlfriend in Paris, despite not knowing her address. Unable to find her, Groff decided to continue his trip and eventually reached London.

Early success: Variatio 22

In 1998, Groff met Marco Patrignani (a producer and songwriter known for working with Massimo Di Cataldo and Anna Oxa), which gave Daniele the opportunity to produce his debut album Variatio 22 between London and Rome, with the help of a band based in England. Released under the independent label Road House Music and licensed by BMG, the album's debut single, Daisy, won the 1998 Sanremo Giovani, hosted by Max Pezzali and Alessia Merz.

In addition to Daisy, Variatio 22 produced four more hit singles: Io Sono Io, Lamerica (a song selected by the Italian Prime Minister's Office for their 1999 AIDS prevention campaign), Adesso (which placed 5th at the Sanremo Music Festival 1999), and Everyday (which was used by Leonardo Pieraccioni for his film The Fish in Love). The album sold over 100,000 copies.

Second album: Bit

In 2001, Groff released his second album Bit, with artistic production by Groff and Francesco Valente. The album, recorded between Los Angeles and Rome, featured string arrangements by Wil Malone (who has worked with Madonna, Richard Ashcroft, Skunk Anansie, and Massive Attack). Three singles were released from the album: the radio hit If You Don't Like It, Anna Julia (Festivalbar 2001), and Lory, the latter featuring lyrics by Lucio Dalla. All eight singles from his first and second albums reached the top 20 of the music charts.

Second Sanremo appearance and third album: Mi accordo

Mi accordo, Groff's third album, features 11 tracks, five of which are in English. The album includes a collaboration with Renato Zero, who co-wrote and performed the song Pensa a te. Groff himself produced the album, with contributions from Marco Bosco, Marco Patrignani, and sound by Alessandro Benedetti. String arrangements were handled by Romano Musumarra, who has produced for Luciano Pavarotti and Céline Dion.

The album's first single, Sei un miracolo, was presented at the 54th Sanremo Music Festival and became a top 10 radio hit. Groff performed the song for Pope John Paul II. The second single, Come sempre, reached the finals of Festivalbar 2004 at the Verona Arena. During his 2004 tour, Groff opened for Renato Zero at several sold-out stadium concerts, performing to a total audience of 300,000.

In 2005, Edoardo Bennato invited Groff to contribute the song Una ragazza for the album La Fantastica Storia del Pifferaio Magico, alongside artists like Raf, Jovanotti, and Piero Pelù. Groff won the JPF 2006 Music Award for Best Pop Song with Morning, the third single from Mi accordo. In autumn 2006, he participated in the Telethon charity compilation Note per la ricerca with the song Sei un miracolo.

Fourth album

In 2007, Groff released the single Prendimi, co-written with Volker Hinkel, as a preview of a forthcoming fourth album. In the summer of that year, he opened Renato Zero's concerts with an acoustic set. In 2010, Groff performed at the Summer Music Festival.

In August 2012, he launched a crowdfunding project on the French platform Ulule to raise funds for his new album. The initiative was successful, raising €11,690, surpassing the initial goal of €10,000.

In 2015, Groff released the single Bellissima la verità and in June 2016, the single Sempre nella mia testa.

In 2023, Groff collaborated with the Southern Waves, lending his voice to the single Lullaby of Mine.
