Frederick David Bryan Wrench (27 November 1936 in Northwich – 18 June 2018 in Durston) was a British rugby union player and politician.[1]
Early life and education
editWrench was born in Northwich, Cheshire and attended Sandbach School.[2] He attended the University of Leeds and University of Cambridge.[2]
Sporting and teaching career
editIn 1964, Wrench debuted playing for the England national rugby union team.[2]
Wrench later entered teaching at Haberdashers' Aske's School, in Hertfordshire, playing rugby for the Harlequins, where he was captain for a season.[2]
Political career
editWrench was a councillor until 1992, sitting on Somerset County Council and Taunton Deane Borough Council.[2] He was chairman of Wellington Town Council, twinning the town with Immenstadt in Germany.[2]
He retired with his wife to Durston in Somerset, and got involved with the Conservative Party and was chairman of North Curry until he stood down due to ill health.[2]
Personal life
editWrench was married and had four children. His daughter Rachel Gilmour was elected Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament (MP) for Tiverton and Minehead in the 2024 United Kingdom general election.[3]
Wrench died in August 2018.
