Death and speculation
editIn 1966,[5][6] Golik prepared a cup of tea for herself[7] and settled down to watch television in her apartment in Zagreb.[8] At some point she died. Her neighbors assumed that she had moved away.[9]
Discovery of body
editWhen the police finally entered her apartment on May 12, 2008,[10] they discovered her dead body sitting in the chair in front of her TV. Her teacup, which she had been sipping from, remained on a table next to her chair. The apartment was filled with items that hadn't been seen for decades. Nothing in her home had been disturbed, though it was adorned with numerous cobwebs.[11] The police removed her body from her apartment.
Aftermath
editGolik's body was buried the following Tuesday. Her story was picked up by several media outlets around the world.[12]
