Dorothy Nneka Ede is a Nigerian entrepreneur and sports enthusiast known for her ownership of Lusitano Ginásio Clube, Futebol, SAD, a Portuguese football club based in Évora, Portugal. Ede's involvement in the club reflects her vision for the development of young talents in football.[1][2]
Ownership of the Portuguese team
editEde expressed her hopes that her ownership of the Portuguese team would provide a pathway for the development of young talents. She stated, “I am excited about this opportunity and I hope that this new chapter will deepen the already great sporting relations between Nigeria and Portugal, continue with the rich history of Lusitano club, and provide a pathway for young talent to develop and shine through.”[3]
Historical Background of Lusitano Ginásio Clube
editLusitano Ginásio Clube, Futebol, SAD, also known as Lusitano de Évora, was incorporated as a shareholding firm in 2016. The club is based in Évora and traces its origins back to the senior side of Lusitano Ginásio Clube, established on 11 November 1911.[4]
In the 1950s, Lusitano enjoyed considerable success, playing 14 consecutive terms in the Primeira Divisão (First Division) of Portuguese football. To this day, it remains among the 30 teams in Portugal with the most participation at level 1.[5]
