Álvaro Fernández-Llamazares (Barcelona, ​​1988) is a Spanish ethnobiologist specialized in the study of Indigenous Peoples and their contributions to biodiversity conservation.[1]

Research

He has published more than 90 scientific articles, in journals such as Nature, Trends in Ecology and Evolution, Current Biology, Global Environmental Change, People and Nature, or Conservation Letters, among others.[2] His research has focused on the roles of Indigenous Peoples in biodiversity conservation, through geospatial analyses, and consolidating empirical methodologies to document changes in traditional ecological knowledge systems.[3] His work is based on more than 30 months of ethnographic field-based experience with Indigenous and local communities in countries such as Bolivia, Kenya or Madagascar.[4]

He has participated in several intergovernmental processes on biodiversity within the framework of the United Nations.[5][6] His research has been linked to the work of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).[5] He is one of the 145 authors of the IPBES Global Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.[7]
