1c34 is an American hip-hop collective based in New York City. Formed by Xaviersobased, Glost and Cranes in 2021. The group originally emerged as a gaming clan and involved members from around the world. 1c34 have been credited with pioneering the jerk microgenre and as influential in the 2020s underground rap scene.[1]
History
[edit]In 2020, American rapper Xaviersobased, traded a gaming headset for a recording microphone due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and invited his friends, with whom he was playing Tony Hawk's Underground Pro, to join his group 1c34, which had initially emerged as a "gaming clan," according to The Fader, but later became a music group.[2] The group was initially founded by Xavier, glost and cranes. Their music has been credited with influencing and spearheading the development of the 2020s microgenre "jerk".[3] The style was influenced by the 2010s wave of jerk rap, and described by publications such as Pitchfork as a revival or "nu-jerk".[4][5]

Producer Cranes later formed his own collective studygroup.
