The 48 Hour Film Project is produced in Scotland by Sam Goldblatt and Louise E. Knowles, where it is Scotland's biggest filmmaking event. They have produced it annually in Edinburgh since 2008[1][2][3]. In 2011 they added Glasgow[4], and in 2024 they added both Aberdeen and Inverness, the Highlands and Islands[5], making a total of 4 competitions in Scotland each year.
Over 1,000 short films have been made as part of the 48 Hour Film Project in Scotland.[6]
Judges include Michael Hines, director of popular Scottish sitcom Still Game.[7]
Celebrities who have participated include Richard Rankin, star of Rebus and Outlander, who participated in 2011 and won Best Actor.[8]
Participants have gone on to great success, including being selected for Channel 4's New Writer's Scheme.[9]
In 2021 they launched a Global Scot Award for International Collaboration.[10]
Sam and Louise produce also Short Showcase events, local screening nights which feature 48 hour films, in Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh.[11][12][13][14]
