Aasi, Morso ja Mouru is a Finnish puppet television series adapted from children's books by Tuula Kallioniemi. It was broadcast on Yle TV2 from 1999 to 2001.[1]
The show is particularly noted for the character Morso, who was considered "scary" by its young audience.[2]
Story
editThe series follows the lives of three characters: Aasi, a donkey; Morso, a mysterious creature; and Mouru, a cat. Aasi, who is naive and timid, resides alone in a modest dwelling and harbors a deep-seated fear of creatures called morsos. However, this fear vanishes when he meets Morso, leading to newfound self-assurance. Mouru, known for his obstinacy and determination, encounters Aasi and Morso in the show's fourth episode. Morso, characterized by his wisdom and composure, often defuses the tense situations that he and Aasi encounter. Occasionally, a cuckoo clock makes an appearance.
Director Olli Löytönen has remarked that the show's underlying message is about embracing differences.
Puppeteer Erja Mikkola has explained that Morso's intimidating design, diverging from his portrayal as a mouse in the original book, was intentional to evoke Aasi's initial fear, with a pug serving as the visual inspiration for Morso's look.[3]

editA 4-minute episode. The episode starts off with Aasi on a hammock and Morso reading a newspaper, while Aasi is telling himself passionately, "How peaceful. No scary morso's anywhere." as he chuckles a bit and says as a joke he does not miss them.[5][6] As Morso asks Aasi if he can listen to what Morso has to say as Aasi continues to tell himself how peaceful he feels and says how life is so boring. Morso urgently tells Aasi of how what he is about to say is important, as Aasi responds by rocking on the hammock faster and humorously, he falls off the hammock.
As Aasi gets up, he gets scared and exclaims if there was a morso, as Morso says it was a airplane. Aasi says foolishly "But what if... it WAS a morso?", leading to Morso to correct Aasi that morso's can't fly. As Aasi refuses the correction and says to Morso what does he know and says that morso's are professional flyers. Aasi dumbfoundedly proclaims himself as a "World-class Morso expert".
It transitions to Aasi in his house sawing something. Turns out, what he was building is a device that could round up all the scary morso's and send them in the air flying. Then, it shows Aasi on the roof, wearing the object that could send morso's flying he built as he jumps off the roof and starts souring through the sky. But then he crashes and sees a letter on the floor that reads "Lovely morso, I miss you, regards, mom." Aasi reads the address and sees where it says "morso" as he starts running away and hides in his house.
Morso walks up to the door of the house Aasi was hiding and Morso confesses that he was a morso. Aasi laughs Morso's confession off, thinking it was a joke. Morso says it was true, and Aasi gets furious and calls Morso a traitor as Morso walks away from Aasi in hurt.
Aasi comes back to Morso and says to Morso he is sorry, now Aasi is confessing how he thought morso's were scary and dangerous, but Morso wasn't. Leading for Aasi to say to Morso for him to come back. Morso is still hurt about when Aasi thought he and his species was disgusting and dangerous, and Aasi apologizes to Morso and the episode ends lightheartedly.
