Early Life and Background

edit

Abel Vathilingon was born in Curepipe, Mauritius, into a family of musicians, which deeply influenced his early interest in music. He found his initial inspiration in gospel music, which marked the beginning of his musical journey. During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Abel began posting gospel covers on social media, which garnered significant attention and positive feedback. This encouragement led him to start writing his original songs.

Career

edit

In 2022, Abel released his debut single, "Dingue Dingue," a duet with the artist Mauritian singer Tii Alexandre. The song was a commercial success and introduced Abel to a broader audience. Following this, he released another hit single, "To Tousel," in July 2022. Abel regards "To Tousel" as a significant milestone in his career, as it greatly contributed to his growing popularity.[2]

Abel’s success with these singles opened new opportunities in the music industry, solidifying his status as one of the most appreciated singers of the new generation in Mauritius. His live performances, particularly at the Mauritius Open Air Festival in London in July 2024, have further showcased his talent and expanded his presence on the international stage.
