Abridge AI is an American health technology company that develops artificial intelligence software used to generate clinical documentation from conversations between patients and clinicians.[1] The company was founded in 2018 by cardiologist Shiv Rao and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.[2]
The company's software converts recorded medical conversations into structured clinical notes designed for integration with electronic health record systems.[3]
History
[edit]Abridge AI was founded in 2018 by cardiologist Shiv Rao, who previously worked at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).[2]
In February 2025, the healthcare software company athenahealth announced that it would offer Abridge’s artificial intelligence medical scribe through its Ambient Notes platform to a network of more than 160,000 clinicians.[4]
Technology
[edit]Abridge’s software uses speech recognition and natural language processing to analyze conversations between clinicians and patients and generate clinical documentation.[3]
Funding
[edit]In February 2024, Abridge raised $150 million in a Series C funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Redpoint Ventures, valuing the company at about $850 million.[5][6]
In June 2025, the company raised $300 million in a funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz, valuing the company at about $5.3 billion.[2]
