Acecraft (stylized as ACECRAFT) (originally known as ACE Wonder) is a 2024 shoot 'em up game developed and published by Vizta Games (a subsidiary of Moonton).[1][2][3]
The game is made in classic rubber hose animation and inspired by the golden age of American animation. It also features a jazz soundtrack, and has many references to various classic cartoons.
Gameplay
editThe gameplay of ACECRAFT is centered on continuous boss fights. Every level takes place in the sky, with the player being in a third person airplane moving vertically in the style of a shoot 'em up. The goal of every level is to defeat the various characters and bosses, which allows to unlock new maps, until the final fight with the Demon King.
Many users have noted that the gameplay is very similar to Cuphead, another shoot 'em up video game in rubber hose animation that isn't available on mobile.
Synopsis
editIn the realm of Cloudia, located 260,000 feet above the ground, various fantastical creatures coexist in peace. The realm's peace is disrupted when the Demon King and his army launch an attack, causing chaos throughout the isles and driving many inhabitants to madness in a case of moral disengagement.
In response, a group known as the Ark of Hope, led by Mister X. and composed of elite pilots, undertakes a mission to restore peace by confronting the Demon King’s forces. The mission's lead pilot is Ekko, an anthropomorphic cat, accompanied by Joey, Amelia, Charlie, Summer, and Ironarms, who embarks on a quest to defeat the realm’s enemies, starting with Dream Island, Frost Island, and the Ghost Swamp, until the final battle with the Demon King himself.
Development
editThe game, originally known as ACE Wonder, released a first test release on July 17, 2024, which ended on August 9. It was later renamed to ACECRAFT, and received a limited release in the United States, and later in Canada on October 31.
Vizta Games are planning for a global launch of the game in 2025.
Reception
editDuring its limited release, ACECRAFT was praised for its animation which was highlighted as an impressive replication of the rubber hose cartoon aesthetic, with its hand-drawn look and challenging gameplay reminiscent of classic run-and-gun titles.
It also received mixed reviews due to some players pointing out its close ressemblance to the 2017 video game Cuphead.
