Draft:Adebola Adebileje

Adebola Adebileje[1] is a Nigerian academic (born May 30, 1963, in Oyo State, Nigeria). She is a Professor of Applied English Linguistics at Redeemer’s University. Her areas of expertise include English as a Second Language, Nigerian English, English Syntax, Sociolinguistics, and Onomastics.

She serves as the Vice President of the Society for the Study of Names in Nigeria (SSNN) and chairs several committees within Redeemer's University.

Education

Adebileje completed her primary education in Ibadan, Oyo State, and later attended Yejide Girls Grammar School, for her secondary education.

Adebileje obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English and Education from the University of Ilorin in 1989, a Master of Education in English Language in 1995, and a Doctorate in English Language Education from the same institution in 2002. Additionally, she holds a PGD in Theology and a Master's in Systematic Theology.

Academic career

She joined Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State in 2005, where she has been a member of the Department of English. She was the pioneer Coordinator of the English Department from 2005 to 2009, the Ag. Director of the Directorate of General Studies Programmes (DGSP) from 2014 to 2016, and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities from 2018 to 2019. In 2016, she attained the rank of full Professor and previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor[2].

As a researcher, Adebileje attends conferences and workshops both locally and internationally. Her research, which focuses on the Diachronic Evolution of English in Nigeria, is currently sponsored by Redeemer’s University. She has over forty publications in local and international journals, and her contributions have impacted the field of Applied English Linguistics.

Adebileje is a member of some professional bodies, including the Nigerian English Studies Association (now English Scholars Association of Nigeria), Linguistic Association of Nigeria, Reading Association of Nigeria, American Association of Applied Linguistics, and Linguistic Society of America.

Personal life

Professor Adebileje is a Pastor[3] in the Redeemed Christian Church of God. She is married to Pastor Olusegun Adebileje, and together, they have children and grandchildren.
