Ahmet Dervişoğlu was born in 1935, Akçapinar, Gönen, Balıkesir|Gönen, Turkey, passed away on December 14, 2025 [1]

In May 2016, a book of biography and memoirs titled Wisdom of the Dervish in Turkish "Derviş'in Aklı" was published. It was a meaningful conversation with Doğan Cüceloğlu (A leading Turkish Academic and popular figure in the media) [2]

Education

In 1959, he graduated from the ITU Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Weak Current branch. In the same year, he joined the faculty as an assistant.[3] In 1962, he went to the University of Illinois in the United States for his doctoral studies. After receiving his Ph.D. title in 1964, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the same university until 1965.[4] In February 1965, he returned to his position at the ITU Faculty of Electrical Engineering.[5]

Academic life

He received the title of Associate Professor in 1969, and Professor in 1975. In 1973-74 and 1980-82, upon the invitation of Professor Leon O. Chua,[6] he conducted research and gave lectures at the University of California in Berkeley.[7] Domestically, apart from his teaching and research activities at ITU, he gave lectures and conducted thesis studies at Boğaziçi University, Middle East Technical University, Hacettepe University, Karadeniz Technical University, Uludağ University, Yeditepe University and Işık University. His works and publications consist of 13 original articles published in English, 10 papers presented in English, 32 papers presented in Turkish, 4 lecture notes and books, 6 reports, and 4 articles published in Turkish. His publications have been cited more than 100 times in the Science Citation Index'[8]

Between 1985 and 1987, he served as the Head of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, and between 1987 and 1996, he served as the Dean of the ITU Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. On September 17, 2000, he retired at his own request. He is married and a father of two children. His wife is teacher Çayhan Dervisoglu, the daughter of one of the Mayors of Rize, Ekrem Orhon. Awards

He was awarded the 1986 Science Award by the METU Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation[9] for his studies and publications at the international level, and his resounding contributions to the Science of Circuits and Systems, especially with the article he published with C.A. Desoer explaining algorithmically how to formulate state equations for the most general circuits. On January 29, 2013, he was given the Outstanding Service Award by the Turkish Electronic Industrialists Association "for his valuable contributions to the development of the Electronics and Informatics sector through his scientific studies and the qualified human resources he trained".[10]
