- Comment: Still not notable mate. Until many claims written are proven by reliable and independent (to the subject) sources, we can't approve the article. It's well written though. ANUwrites 05:14, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Aidan Knight (born 30 December 2002), known professionally as JailBird Sage, is an Australian songwriter, recording artist and music journalist from Melbourne. Knight became active in 2018, when he began uploading original music on SoundCloud. Following this, he emerged into the underground Melbourne scene, working with acts like Dexter Seamus, Logan M and Jay Zayat, who had all at some stage made a full-time living from their music careers. His works have been influenced by acts such as Allday, Brevin Kim, Lorde, and Troye Sivan. [1] Knight released his debut EP, The Cliche Kid, in February 2020 via AMUSE distribution. He has since released a further 4 EPs before beginning development of his debut album, darkly dreaming, set for release in 2025.
Biography
editKnight grew up in the Gippsland of Victoria, south-east of Melbourne. He completed his high school education at Virtual School Victoria (VSV), then called Distance Education Centre Victoria (DECV). After completing VCE at VSV he attended Deakin University [2], where he completed a Bachelor of Communication in Journalism. He began experimenting with making music in his early teenage years after transitioning from writing poetry, which he continued until Year 11. He began working as a music journalist at age 16, writing freelance articles and album reviews for INDIE IS NOT A GENRE[3], where he later became Australian correspondent for a short period. Since then he has also written for AUD$ [4] and after graduating was offered a role back in Gippsland at Morwell Advertiser, now called The Latrobe Valley Express.
Career
edit2018–2020: Career beginnings
editKnight began producing works under the name JailBird Sage in 2018. The name "JailBird Sage" came about from a cartoon character him and his younger cousin drew while on a family holiday in 2013 - which bore resemblance to a man with the head of a blue jay.
In September 2019, Sage released his first official single ALIENATING (feat. xadjolifto). It was followed by debut EP The Cliche Kid. These projects were recorded on his school laptop and an $80 USB microphone, The Blue Yeti Snowball. Sage utilised the open-source recording software Audacity, and would continue to do so until October 2021.
2020: just aidan
editThe Cliche Kid, a project entirely unmixed and mastered, drew the attention of drest, another artist of the same age and influences moving from rurual New South Wales to Melbourne. drest offerred his services as a music production student at [[Collarts] College to mix and master future Sage projects, the first of which was just aidan, a sophomore EP releseased October 2020.
The EP featured recording appearences from drest himself as well as Jet Cooper (later known as Jetzilla), an independent Sydney artist Sage connected with on SoundCloud.
It is because of this sudden change in audio quality that sees just aidan widely regarded as the debut EP, even by Sage himself, as the prior releases had much more of a DIY quality to them.
This EP saw Sage gain the attention of Friggy, another independent Melbourne artist who would soon become a close collaborator and key figure in the evolution of JailBird Sage after working on several songs together.
2021-2022: sad boy high school raps
editIn 2021 Sage performed live for the first time, opening for The Dutch Boys (comprised of Sydney-raised Melbourne Artists Ruku and Savillian), for their EP launch. The show took place at Fitzroy's Laundry Bar, which quickly became a training ground for Sage's perfomances over the next two years, opening for other acts such as Sydney drill music artist Delawou.
After a string of singles, including MOVING ON PT.II (feat. Friggy), Sage released his third EP, 'sad boy high school raps', his final body of work mixed and mastered by drest, which was delayed by 6 months due to drest's increased workload with other clients and his own catalogue as he began playing live shows around various clubs and small venues in Melbourne.
The EP was described by Sage to be "as close as I'll get to a mixtape", and closed his high school years with a formative sound that he would go on to develop for years to come, describing himself as a cloud rap artist when prompted for a genre.
