Akavassky Formation is a stratigraphic unit located in Chelyabinsk, Ukraine (Donets Basin), Bashkortostan, and Sverdlovsk, Russia. Represents Bashkirian age. In the Donets Basin, it is made up of interbedded shales, argillites, siltstones, and sandstones with occasional limestone and coal intercalations. Largely terrigenous. The lower boundary is marked by Declinognathodus noduliferus and limestone D5 8 upper; the upper boundary is drawn at limestone K3 of the C2 5(K) Suite - it could be correlated with Aegiranium Marine Band and correspond to Atokan in North America. Significant to conodont biostratigraphy.[1]
