Career

[edit]

During her twenties, Akuvi moved to South Africa for five years to study in religion.[2] Through this trip, she explored Gospel music and traditional music of Africa.[3] She has a Bachelor's Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies.[2]

In 2019 she participated in the show "Beat for Beat".[1] The following year, Akuvi entered Melodi Grand Prix 2020 with the song "Som du er".[4] Her single "What We Are" featured on NRK's "Best akkurat nå".[5] She returned to Melodi Grand Prix 3 years later, in 2023, with the entry "Triumph".[3] Akuvi participated in "Beat For Beat" again in 2023.[6] She has also appeared on South African breakfast television, where she discussed her performances.[1]

She voiced "Dolores" in the Norwegian dub of "Encanto" and "Karma" in the Norwegian dub of the Netflix show "Karma's World".[5]

In 2025, she performed in the TV programme "Stjernekamp".[7]

Style and influences

[edit]

Akuvi performs South African Gospel, West African Afropop and American hip hop and R&B. She has cited this blend to be the genre "reggae-infused neo-soul".[1] Her Ghanaian roots are an influence for her music.[5]
