Al Cheznovitz, also known as Al Chez (born July 7 1961 in Jersey City, New Jersey) is a American musician best known as a former member of The CBS Orchestra (also known as Paul Shaffer and the World's Most Dangerous Band), which was the house band for Late Show with David Letterman.
Growing up and career
editHe started his career at the age of 9 when he joined his father's local drum corps, The Saints. He joined the Garfield Cadets before in 1979 forming the band Atlantic City Expressway with Jon Bon Jovi which played various clubs around New Jersey for five years. Al Chez's newest band Al Chez & The Brothers of Funk Big Band is a big band with 15 members.
He Graduated from John P. Stevens High School in Edison, New Jersey in 1979.
He has played with artists such as Tower of Power, Robert Cray Band, [David Bowie]], Dave Edmunds, Rolling Stones, [Sting ]], Snoop Dog and Bon Jovi .
Al Chez first met Paul Shaffer and bassist Will Lee at a club in New York in 1986 and was asked to tour with The World's Most Dangerous Band. Together with Paul Shaffer and co he played at festivals such as Jacksonville Jazz Festival and Summerfest in Wisconsin.
He began playing regularly with The CBS Orchestra beginning February 3 1997. He quit in July 2012.
He played at events such as the Presidential Inauguration in 1989, John Lennon's 50th Birthday Celebration and the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996.
He plays trumpet and flugelhorn.
He still lives in New Jersey with his wife Cat, and their 6 children and 10 Grandchildren .
