Aleksandr (Alex) Krasnok (born September 13, 1987) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Florida International University. [1] He works in the fields of photonics, quantum optics, and electrodynamics, focusing on optical nanoantennas, Moiré Metaphotonics, and complex-frequency excitations. Krasnok has co-authored over 100 journal papers and 7 books and book chapters. [2] He has received several awards, including the Leopold B. Felsen Award for Excellence in Electrodynamics (2024)[3], the Early-Career Award in Nanophotonics (2021)[4], and the Gold Medal from the Nobel Laureate Zhores Alferov’s Foundation (2016)[5].
Career biography
editDr. Krasnok earned his Ph.D. in Photonics from ITMO University in 2013.[6] After completing his Ph.D., he served as an Assistant Professor at ITMO University, where his research focused on nanophotonics and quantum optics. He worked on all-dielectric nanoantennas for efficient light manipulation at the nanoscale.[7]
From 2016 to 2018, Dr. Krasnok was a Research Scientist at the University of Texas at Austin in the Andrea Alù Research Group, where he worked on quantum optics, metasurfaces, and scattering theory.[8]
Between 2018 and 2021, Krasnok served as a Research Assistant Professor and Director of the Photonics Core Facility at the City University of New York Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC).[9] He established an optical laboratory at ASRC, facilitating interdisciplinary research in photonics, and published several papers on controlling light at the nanoscale.[10]
Since July 2021, Dr. Krasnok has been an Assistant Professor at Florida International University, leading a research group focused on quantum photonics and metasurfaces. He teaches courses on quantum computing, theoretical electromagnetism, photonics, and advanced topics in electrical engineering.[11]
Dr. Krasnok is also an editor for Advanced Photonics Nexus[12], Reviews on Advanced Materials Science[13], and an assistant editor for Photonics Research[14].
