Alier "Ghor" John Magot, known professionally as Alijoma, is a South Sudanese award-winning artist, songwriter, sound engineer, and businessman. Born on February 3, 1992, in Bor, Jonglei State, Alijoma rose to prominence through his unique Afrobeat style, becoming a celebrated name in South Sudan's music industry.

Early Life and Inspiration

Alijoma was introduced to music at a young age through his mother's radio, where he listened to Congolese Lingala legends like Koffi Olomide and Awilo Longomba, as well as South Sudanese artists such as Amos Ajak, Nayankol Mathiang, Panchol Deng Ajang, Johnson Jock, and Bol Panan. These early influences inspired him to pursue music despite challenges. His parents, Magot Ghor Athou and Martha Achan Alier, have been a constant source of motivation in his journey.

Career

Alijoma began freestyling at age 15 and recorded his first song in 2010. Following its release, he started performing live in night shows, where he gained a following. His 2012 release, We Need Freedom, became popular in Torit, the capital of Eastern Equatoria, solidifying his presence in the local music scene.

In 2013, Alijoma’s single Yin Ca Leec Mama became a massive hit, especially among South Sudanese youth, establishing him as a prominent artist. In 2015, he launched his music career internationally by releasing CDs in Australia and uploading his album on streaming platforms such as iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify. His efforts led him to win the "Promising Afro Artist of the Year" award at the STA Awards in Kenya.

Education

Alijoma attended AIC Primary and Nursery School in Torit, South Sudan, then continued his studies at Uthuman Primary School in Masindi District, Uganda, and later at St. Janan Luwum Secondary School in Bombo, Uganda.
