Almalki Family
editThe Syrian Almalki Family is a fairly wealthy and prestigious family originating from Damascus, Syria.
Renowned for their historical prominence and national recognition in the country, the family has been deeply tied to the creation of the Malki neighborhood, one of the most prestigious areas in the city. Over generations, members of the Almalki Family have contributed to various fields, including history, business, and the arts, leaving a massive impact on Syrian society.
The most widely-known member of the Almalki family in Syria is the Political army hero Adnan Almalki who before being assassinated in 1955 held a rank as a respected colonel in the Syrian Army and was a supporter of Syrian Nationalism and Pan Arab Nationalism graduating from Homs Military Academy.
History
editThe Almalki Family traces its roots to Medieval Damascus and later the Kingdoms of Andalusia in Spain, then migrating and returning back to Damascus growing powerful after the Post Ottoman Era. They were known for their immense land ownership, controlling and maintaining rule over many properties in Damascus, being believed to have played a extremely significant role in the development and shaping of the Malki neighborhood and Damascus as a whole, turning it into a hub of culture and affluence during the early 20th century.
Throughout history, the family maintained strong ties to Damascus, particularly the Malki neighborhood, which became a symbol of their influence.
During the 1930s to 60s, members of the Almalki Family financially and publicly supported scientific studies, arts and cultural programs as well as education opening the “Adnan Almalki school” in Damascus. Their legacy is reflected on the Adnan Almalki statue in the center of Damascus Square.
Connection to the Malki Neighborhood
editThe Malki neighborhood in Damascus square, which shares the family’s name, is among the city’s most prominent and most important areas. The family played a significant role in the development of the neighborhood, maintaining properties in it and turning it into a hub for cultural and social activity. Today, the Malki area remains a symbol of prestige and historical significance.
Modern Day Influence
editThe Almalki Family is now a key role in Business developments and Management globally, especially in major countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United States of America.
One key member of the Almalki family in modern day influence is Mazen Almalki, graduating from the Wayne State University in Michigan with a Masters Degree in Engineering, he is the co-founder of AES (American Engineering Services) which is a leading Chemical Engineering company reportedly operating in the US, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Germany and other Middle Eastern and European countries.
Another prominent member of the Malki Family is Kal Malki, the founder of Cahaba Bicycles which is a popular bicycle retailer and service provider, offering multiple varieties of high quality bikes with multiple different locations across the US, most importantly in Birmingham and Pelham.
In 2016, Kal Malki’s son Faris Malki took over the business, continuing its expansion and development while opening various new locations across different cities.
Legacy and Cultural Impact
