Amal Umar (born 21 October 1998) is a Nigerian actress and model, she acts in both Kannywood and Nollywood. Amal is best known for her role in MTV Base television drama seriesMTV Shuga.[1][2]
Early life
editAmal was born on October 21, 1998, in Katsina state, Nigeria. She attended both primary and secondary education in Katsina, then moved to Kano state to study post-secondary at Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano.
Career
editAmal Umar joined film industry 2015 in which featured mostly in native Kannywood hausa movies. Before appearing in movies, she has featured in music videos with hausa music artist such as Umar M Sherrif, Garzali Miko and others. Amal later joined the Nollywood film industry, in which she starred in a Nollywood film titled Mind Consciousness. Her career came to light after her first appearance in the Nollywood youth series MTV Shuga in Shuga (season 6), she joined the series alongside with other stars such as Adebukola Oladipupo, Yakubu Mohammed, Rahama Sadau, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Nobert Young, and Shawn Faqua.[3]
Scandal
editIn March 2024, Amal was accused of attempted bribery involving the sum of N250,000 offered to Kano State Police Command officer.[4][5] According to the prosecutor, the alleged bribe was aimed at halting Police investigation into alleged financial misappropriation perpetrated by the actress boyfriend. However, Amal denies the allegation asserting that the it was the police officer that initially solicited funds from her.[6][7]
