Andy Schichter (born February 25, 1987) is a Canadian record producer, and musician. He has worked with Rare Americans, The Decemberists[1], Beth Orton[2], Black Prairie[3], Thao & The Get Down Stay Down[4].

Early career

Andy’s early career began in Portland, Oregon apprenticing under Grammy Award-nominated producer Tucker Martine. He assisted Tucker on several albums. Most notable, was The Decemberists’ The King is Dead[5]. The album reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart for the week ending February 5, 2011[6]. "Down by the Water" from their album, The King Is Dead, was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 54th Grammy Awards.[7]

He later worked on Beth Orton's Sugaring Season as an assistant engineer[8]. The album reached a peak of No. 26 UK Albums (OCC) for the week ending in October 12, 2012.[9]

Career

In 2018 he opened his first recording studio, Park Sound Studio with Dan Ponich in District of North Vancouver.[10] In 2023, they moved their studio to the Lower Lonsdale community of North Vancouver.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, Andy co-organized a fundraising concert series for Vancouver musicians on Instagram Live.[11]

Awards and nominations

In June 2022, Andy was nominated for Audio Engineer of the Year at the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards for his work with Anna Katarina, Trust this Mechanism, and Andrew Maranta.[12]

In June 2023, Andy saw his second straight nomination for Audio Engineer of the Year at the 2023 Western Canadian Music Awards.[13]

In May 2024, Andy was nominated for Producer of the Year and Audio Engineer of the Year at the 2024 Western Canadian Music Awards.[14]
