Anila Ali is the Board Chair and President of The American Muslim & Multifaith Women's Empowerment Council (AMMWEC),[1] formerly The American Muslim Women's Empowerment Council (AMWEC).
In January 2017, Ali spoke at an interfaith town hall in Newport Beach, CA to discuss hate crimes against Jews and Muslims.[2]
In March 2022, Ali traveled to Israel with Pakistani-Americans to promote interfaith dialogue between Muslims and Jews, and on that trip she met with Israeli president Isaac Herzog.[3] This trip generated controversy inside of Pakistan, including from Pakistan's ex-prime minister Imran Khan.[4]
In August 2023, Ali attended the Parliament of World Religions, an-interfaith gathering that dates back to 1893.[5] In September 2023, Ali was a speaker at the Eradicate Hate Global Summit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.[6]
Shortly following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack against Israel, Ali joined an interfaith peace vigil outside of the White House in solidarity with the victims.[7] In November 2023, Ali spoke at the Rally for Israel on Capitol Hill.[8] In December 2023, Ali spoke out about the "hypocrisy" of women's groups not condemning sexual violence against Israelis committed by Hamas on October 7, 2023.[9] In December 2023, Ali led a solidarity mission to Israel along with the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) to oppose Hamas' October 7 attack against Israel.[10]
In March 2024, Ali helped organize an interfaith iftar at Congregation B'nai Tzedek of Potomac, Maryland.[11] Ali spoke at the event, which had over 100 attendees.[12]
In March 2024, Ali and other members of AMMWEC's leadership spoke at Jamaica Estates, an Orthodox synagogue in Queens, New York, about combating anti-Semitism and the need for Hamas to release hostages they took following their October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.[13]
In July 2024, Ali spoke on panels in Beverly Hills[14] and Manhattan[15] following screenings of "Screams before Silence," a documentary on Hamas' sexual violence against women in the October 7, 2023 attack.
In October 2024, Ali published an op-ed in Newsweek on her thoughts on Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.[16]
