Araloyin Oshunremi (June 8, 2004) is a British-Nigerian actor.[1] He's known for his role in the Netflix TV series, Top Boy (2019-2023) as Stefan Tovell and Heartstopper (2022-2023) as Otis Smith..[2]
Early Life
editOshunremi was born and raised in Hackney, London, England to Nigerian parents of Yoruba heritage.[1]
He got his first chance for an acting role when he was handed a flyer while was learning haircuts in a barbershop, which was an open audition for Top Boy.[3] He has said that his mother is his biggest inspiration, as well as actor John Boyega after seeing him in Attack the Block. [3]
Holds dual British and Nigerian citizenship. About being Nigerian, the East London-born actor has said: "There's a lot of Nigerians in London. I'm feeling very proud of my nigerian yoruba heritage and always embrace my nigerian culture, the dressing, the food and traditions".[1]
Career
editHe began his career playing Stefan Tovell in Top Boy from 2019 to 2023, a role that came his way after he got his hands on a poster inviting him to audition for a role in a television series. During filming for the following seasons, he appeared in another Netflix production, the LGBT-themed series Heartstopper in the small role of Otis Smith. He shot two short films during those years, Falsehood (2022) and The Naughty List (2023).[3].
