Prof. Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyin, (born April 30th, 1961) is a Nigerian academic, professor of English, and administrator. He isthe current Acting Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, a position he has held since February 8th, 2022.
- Early Life and Education*
Adagbonyin was born on April 30th, 1961, in Evboesi, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. He attended St. John’s C.A.C. Primary School and the prestigious Hussey College both in Warri. He went on to further his education at the University of Benin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Literature. Adagbonyin also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in English Language (Stylistics) from the same institution and a Master of Arts (ESL) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
- Academic and Administrative Career*
Adagbonyin began his academic career as a lecturer at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, where he has served in various capacities as Head of Department, Sub-Dean, Dean, Director and Senate’s representative in the University’s Governing Council. His academic interests are primarily in English Language and Literature, and he has published numerous scholarly articles and books in these fields.
In February 2022, Adagbonyin was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University by the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki. His appointment came as part of broader efforts to revitalize the institution.
