Augie K. Fabela II (born 1968) is an American entrepreneur, co-founder of the telecommunications company VEON, and the founder of FastForward.ai, an e-commerce-as-a-service company. He is also a certified law enforcement officer and author. Mr. Fabela currently serves as the Chairman of VEON’s board of directors, Executive Chairman of the board at FastForward.ai, and Chief Special Assistant to the Sheriff in Cook County, Illinois.

editMr. Fabela is a son of Colombian and Mexican parents[1]. He has a wife [2] and a son, Andrew Fabela[3].
Education
editMr. Fabela graduated[4] from Stanford University with a Master of Arts (MA) in International Policy Studies (1986–1987) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in International Relations and Affairs (1983–1987).
In addition to his academic background, Mr. Fabela completed training at the Police Academy (NEMRT) and the Gateway SWAT Operator School, earning certification as a law enforcement officer and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) operator in the State of Illinois.

editAfter graduating from Stanford University, Mr. Fabela spent two years in Tokyo, Japan where he worked[5] for Fujisankei Communications Group, one of the country’s largest media conglomerates.
Mr. Fabela returned to the USA where he together with his father founded a company called Plexsys[6]. In January 1992, the company invited among others, Dmitry Zimin. Later that year, at the age of 25, Mr. Fabela co-founded VEON (formerly known as VimpelCom) together with Dmitry Zimin[7]. Mr. Fabela has served on a few Boards of commercial organisations. He served as Chairman of the Board of VEON from 1994 to 2001, leading the IPO of the company to NYSE[8]. He became VEON's Chairman once again in 2011 and served until the end of 2012. He joined the Board as an independent director in June 2022[9]. Mr. Fabela currently serves as the Chairman of VEON's board of directors, Executive Chairman of the board at FastFowrard.ai [10].
Mr. Fabela is also the Founder and Executive Chairman of FastForward.ai, an e-commerce-as-a-Service company, and a Board director at Shareability, a brand performance agency[11].

Law Enforcement Career
editIn 2010, Augie became a certified police officer in Chicago, his birthplace, graduating from the police academy at the age of 44.
In 2011-2023, Mr. Fabela served as Commander, Special Operations in Homicide Task Force at Police aviation in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois.
As of 2024, he continues to serve at Chicago Cook County Sheriff’s Office as Chief - Special Assistant to the Sheriff at Sheriff's Department[13] in Cook County, Illinois
