- Babalon** is an alternative rock band from Buenos Aires, Argentina, formed in 2016. Known for their deep occultist spirit and English lyrics, the band has developed a unique sound that has captivated audiences both locally and internationally.
History
editFormation and Early Releases (2016-2018)
editBabalon was formed in 2016 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The band's lineup consists of Gabriel Hazz on vocals, Martin Rodriguez on guitar, Agustin Ferrocchio on guitar, Christian Trafulsi on bass, and Diego Panizo on drums. In their debut year, they released an EP titled As Above So Below, which showcased a mature and robust sound.
In 2017, Babalon recorded two singles, Prey On and The Death Of God, at Romaphonic Studios. These tracks marked a significant evolution in their sound and compositional quality. The following year, the band released their first full-length album, The Working, produced with the support of Electra Records and Guillermo Freidenraij.
Rise to Prominence and Continued Success (2019-Present)
editIn 2019, Babalon released the music video for Magick Night, the first single from The Working, directed by Malena Luchetti. They presented the album live at a sold-out show at The Roxy in Buenos Aires. The band also toured Tucumán and was selected to participate in the 12th edition of the Ciudad Emergente Festival in Buenos Aires.
The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted their tour plans, but Babalon continued to produce content through their YouTube channel. In 2021, they returned to live performances with two sold-out shows in Buenos Aires and were selected for the MICA digital platform, a program by the Ministry of Culture to promote local culture.[1]
In 2022, Babalon began recording new material for their upcoming project, Quantum. The first part, Quantum: Zero, was released in 2023 and included singles like Rapture, A.I., and Oblivion. The second part, Quantum: One, is expected to be released in 2024. In 2023, they also released a music video for Rapture, directed by Sebastian Monaco.
In 2023, Babalon had the opportunity to open for the Swedish band Hardcore Superstar at The Roxy in Buenos Aires.[2]
Musical Style and Influences
editBabalon's music is deeply influenced by occult themes and mysticism, which is reflected in their lyrics and overall concept. The name 'Babalon' is derived from biblical references, symbolizing the 'Mother of all abominations' and the 'Goddess of war and love'. Their music combines elements of hard rock, industrial, metal, and pop, creating a diverse and dynamic sound.
