Balázs Milánik (born November 28, 2000, in Debrecen, Hungary) is a Hungarian graphic designer whose multidisciplinary work explores themes such as political discourse, public interaction, historic patterns, and personal memory. His distinctive approach reflects the contrast between his Hungarian upbringing and professional life in the Netherlands. His portfolio spans posters, visual identities, publications, websites, installations, and motion design.
Early Life and Education
editMilánik grew up in Debrecen, Hungary, and attended Tóth Árpád Gimnázium. In 2024, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague with a degree in Graphic Design. His graduation project, Royal Metro Transit Services (RMTS), examined urban systems and public transportation as frameworks for exploring human and technological interaction.[1]
Career
editIn 2023, Milánik interned at Studio Studio in Ghent, Belgium. His work has been exhibited at notable venues such as KABK and The Grey Space in the Middle.[2]
In 2024, he contributed to the Open Letters project by Page Not Found, a Hague-based independent non-profit organization. His contribution, Typographic Resistance, addressed censorship of the Gaza genocide on social media, focusing on typographic alterations used to bypass content moderation algorithms.[3]
Milánik was also featured in an interview on PIP Radio, discussing his design philosophy and projects, including Royal Metro Transit Services.[4]
Writing
editMilánik's thesis, Budapest Metropolitan, examines the socio-political transformations of post-socialist landscapes, with a speculative focus on Line 3 of the Budapest Metro. The thesis critiques urban design and its impact on public interaction.[5]
Personal Life
editMilánik resides in The Hague, Netherlands. He has a brother and a sister.
