‘’‘Baltimore Carl’’’ (born Carl Johnson Jr.) is an American recovery advocate, independent filmmaker, podcaster, videographer, and community outreach leader from Baltimore, Maryland. He is best known as the founder of ‘’‘Baltimore Recovery Alliance’’’, a nonprofit organization focused on substance abuse recovery, mental health awareness, outreach services, and community support throughout Baltimore City.

Media career

Before entering the recovery field, Baltimore Carl built a local reputation in Baltimore’s entertainment and media scene. From 2011 to 2015, he created and hosted a Baltimore-based podcast and media platform called ‘’‘The Plug’’’. The show highlighted underground and independent hip-hop artists from Baltimore and other cities across the United States. During its run, Carl reportedly produced more than 300 episodes featuring interviews, performances, and community discussions.

Following ‘‘The Plug’’, Carl launched another podcast titled ‘’‘Untamed Uncut’’’, though the project was short-lived.

In addition to podcasting, Carl worked as an independent filmmaker, videographer, editor, and writer. His work has focused on urban life, crime, addiction, redemption, and community issues affecting Baltimore neighborhoods.

Recovery advocacy

After leaving street life behind, Baltimore Carl entered the behavioral health and recovery field. He became a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and community advocate dedicated to helping individuals struggling with substance abuse and mental health disorders.

He later founded ‘’‘Baltimore Recovery Alliance’’’, an organization aimed at providing outreach, peer support, recovery housing resources, mentorship, and public awareness surrounding addiction and recovery. Through the organization, Carl has participated in recovery groups, overdose prevention efforts, public speaking, and community outreach initiatives throughout Baltimore.

Carl has described himself as “the definition of redemption,” often speaking publicly about his transition from drug dealing to helping rebuild the same communities he once harmed.

Legacy and public image

Baltimore Carl has become known locally for his story of transformation from street life to recovery advocacy. His work combines media, storytelling, and peer recovery support to address issues involving addiction, violence, trauma, and mental health in underserved communities.

His life story and activism have been featured in interviews, podcasts, and online media discussions centered around crime, recovery, and redemption in Baltimore City.
