The Banco Plaza is a private capital Venezuelan bank headquartered in Caracas, on Casanova Avenue in the Sabana Grande financial district. The bank is the 16th biggest bank in the country, placing it within the Estrato Pequeño (Small Stratum) of rated banks according to SUDEBAN in 2018. At the end of 2017, Banco Plaza, Banco Universal was recognized as "Venezuela's fastest-growing private bank of 2017" according to the most recent publication in the prestigious finance magazine “Global Banking & Finance”.

History

Banco Plaza was funded on March 9th, 1989 initiated by a group of Portuguese settled in Venezuela since the 1940s-1950s. Between these groups was Agostinho De Sousa Macedo the former president. They began commercial operations in the same year on December 21st, 1989. In 1999, thanks to its growth, the institution moved to its current headquarters in La Torre Banco Plaza, the 15th biggest skyscraper in the country. By mid-2007 it had about 30 agencies nationwide.

Global Rating

Currently, the Banco Plaza is one of the 8th most important private banks in Venezuela, according to the website Banca y Negocios. At the end of 2018, Banco Plaza registered an expansion with a loan portfolio of 74.8%. The bank has continued to expand in Venezuela. In 2018, Banco Plaza received, for its third consecutive year, an "A" in risk rating, granted by the company Global Rating. Although, there has been a decrease in the default rate.
