Draft:Battle of Komboti

The Battle of Komboti was fought during the Greek War of Independence between revolutionary Greek forces and the Ottoman army.

The battle started on July 3, 1822, when about 1,000 Ottoman troops attacked Komboti. The town's defenders - some 150 men - barricaded themselves in the local church and held off the Turkish army until reinforcements arrived from Peta where the local revolutionary army was head-quartered.

Aftermath The battle was an exploratory attack by the army of Kutahye pasha. Despite their victory, the Greeks, under the leadership of Executive president, Alexandros Mavrokordatos himself, failed to take up defensive positions against a superior Turkish army. The Battle of Peta followed very soon afterwards which proved disastrous for the revolutionaries
