Ben David Graeme Townsend (born 30 April 2003) played English domestic cricket for Surrey between 2020 to 2022. His father Gareth Townsend, played first class cricket for Somerset in the early 90s. Townsend is a right arm bowler who represented Surrey at second eleven level. He took 31 wickets between 2020-2022. He made an impressive second eleven debut, taking 3-38 off 18 overs against Somerset at Taunton Vale. Townsend had previously captained the Surrey academy, where he led Surrey to an unbeaten red ball campaign, where he opened the bowling, taking 22 wickets.
His father, Gareth Townsend had represented Somerset between 1990-1992, before playing for his home county, Devon, up to 2001, then moving onto Surrey county cricket club where he was the academy director for 27 years up until 2021.
Townsend Ben, continues to play club cricket at Esher CC, where he has played since 2023, formerly at Stoke D’abernon CC where he grew up and played since the age of 4.
