Around 14,15 century the might of their huge armies, inavder forces, one after another, were invading the Deccan territories. Khilji Turks and other muslim sultanet . all had one burning desire .established their control over almost all part of deccan. But even in these hard times, there was one province which gave a bold fight to these enemies... and that was the fiery kingdoms of the Bhandaris of konkan. For the bhandaris, no sacrifice weighed more importance than freedom ."Bhongales" ruled At vasai, Mahikavati (the present Mahim near Bombay) and their power extended over the whole of Thana as far as Gujarat & mokhada. Many chiefs(nayak) of vijaynagar are Bhandaris .timoji nayak help Portuguese to conquered in goa. Timoji was the sirdar of vijayanagar, Bhandaris are originally Bhattar warriors Bhattar means undefeated,They belong to Kshatriya varna . they give very bravely bold fight to islamic invaders in konkan. They carried regal insigns and royal ruling rights. But despite this unprecedented courage, all these kingdoms,chiefs were overpowered and subdued by the islamic invaders . Islamicforces often dominated over the courageous bhandaris. though the Bhongles for a time re-established their authority with the assistance of the Bhandaris from Chaul. Having thus failed to maintain their autonomy . Bhandaris face was shining with the glory of heroism. When the signal horn was blown, they were allowed to march. And those Bhandari warriors were running on the battlefield swinging maces and swords. And bravery springs up in the heart.with roar of "har har mahadev" bhandaris destroyed many yavans.But they could not hold their against the larger army of the yavan inavders.Many Bhandaris sacrificed their lives in freedom struggle. this incident considered as the very important section of history of konkan .because that time bahamani and other muslim empire conquered the major portion of the maharastra. But even that hard time bhandaris give bold fight to invaders
