If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Bibhrajit Halder is an American entrepreneur, academic, and industry expert in self-driving vehicles, autonomous robotics, AI, and Deep Learning. He is the Founder and CEO of SafeAI Inc.[1], a company specializing in autonomous technology and solutions for heavy industry for which he's already raised nearly $70M.[2] Halder has played a significant role in the development of autonomous systems since the early stages of the industry. He has written several articles, authored over 50 Patents, and has been interviewed for his insights and expertise on topics ranging from self-driving vehicles[3], Artificial Intelligence, and AI safety, to the impact of technology on our future, startups, and life in Silicon Valley.
Education
editHalder holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University[4] (2006) and an MS in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering from Ohio University. His academic work focused on the supervisory control of autonomous robots[5], aiming to detect anomalies and faults to ensure safe and efficient robot operation.
Career
editHalder began his career in autonomous technology with the DARPA Grand Challenge[6], a competition that has been pivotal in advancing self-driving vehicle technology. He subsequently worked on self-driving projects at several major companies, including Caterpillar, Ford, and Apple.[7]
At Caterpillar, Halder developed autonomous mining trucks, contributing to the creation of Level 4 autonomous vehicles. These trucks, part of the Caterpillar Command for Hauling system operating in various mining sites globally and demonstrating high levels of safety and reliability.
Following his tenure at Caterpillar, Halder worked at Ford, where he focused on vehicle localization using limited and lower-accuracy sensor information. He then joined Apple, contributing to their self-driving car project before founding SafeAI in 2017.
At SafeAI, Halder leads a team of engineers to develop comprehensive perception solutions for autonomous vehicles. His work emphasizes the importance of vehicle health management, localization, and environment modeling to ensure safe and efficient path planning for autonomous operations.
Patents
editBibhrajit Halder has authored over 50 patents in multiple countries. His U.S. patents can be found on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website or Justia Patents.[8]
