"Big Time Rush" is a song by American pop group, Big Time Rush. It was released on November 23, 2009, as the first promotional single from their debut studio album, BTR. The song served as the main theme song for the Nickelodeon TV series, Big Time Rush.[1]
Background and release
editOn November 20, 2009, "Big Time Rush" premiered exclusively via JSYK.com,[1] before it was released digitally on November 23.[2] The song was used as the theme song for the Nickelodeon TV series, Big Time Rush, which aired on November 28.[1]
Composition
edit"Big Time Rush" was written by the show's creator, Scott Fellows, with additional help from Matthew Gerrard, Jay Landers, and Charlie Midnight who, in collaboration between Nickelodeon and Columbia, were enlisted to create original music for the show.[2] The track was produced by Gerrard. According to the sheet music published at Musicnotes.com, by Alfred Music Publishing, the track runs at 120 BPM and is in the key of B minor.[3] The lyrics of the song are reminiscent of classic boy-bands that Saturday Night Live skits were built upon, saying, "If you want it all, lay it on the line... It's the only life you've got, so ya gotta live it big time."[4]
Critical reception
editJessica Sager of PopCrush named it as the eighth best Big Time Rush song and stated, "This 120 beats per minute track is infectious and sets the tone for everything that's come since."[5]
Chart performance
editThe song debuted at number 16 on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 and remained on the chart for three weeks.[6] The song peaked at number seven on the US Kid Digital Song Sales chart.[7] The song has sold 215,000 copies in the United States as of April 2010.[8] In November 2022, the song was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.[9]
