The Bingiriya Export Processing Zone (Bingiriya EPZ) is the largest industrial zone in Sri Lanka, located in the Kurunegala District. The zone was developed by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka to promote economic growth, increase exports, and generate employment. The zone is part of the government's initiative to establish new industrial zones that enhance the country's export-oriented industrial base and provide significant job opportunities.

History

The development of the Bingiriya EPZ began in 2018, with the first phase inaugurated shortly after. In 2024, the second and third phases were launched, with plans to expand the zone's facilities and improve infrastructure. The Bingiriya EPZ is expected to generate over 75,000 jobs and increase export revenue to over USD 2.6 billion.[1]

Bingiriya EPZ is situated in the Kurunegala District in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka, strategically positioned to facilitate access to major transportation hubs and export routes. The zone covers approximately 158 acres, with designated areas for different industries.
