Comment: There are very few reliable source, significant coverage articles on Blue Sky Radio, given that the station has only been around less than three years. Radio stations need to meet the general notability guideline, so this is not a good place to be. Blue Sky Radio is now the only local commercial radio station for Staffordshire and Cheshire. Broadcasting to Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Crewe, Nantwich, Leek, Congleton, Sandbach, Middlewich and surrounding areas in the United Kingdom.
The former Signal Radio is now owner by Bauer and broadcasts from London and Manchester, therefore is no longer a local broadcaster..[1]
History
[edit]After the closure of Signal Radio[2], real Local radio in the area was missed by many of the population, the team[3] behind Blue Sky Radio realised there was a need to provide a professional local commercial station.
The station was licenced by Ofcom[4] in 2023 and began broadcasting on May 29th the same year.
Broadcasting from 5 DAB transmitters the station is hosted on 3 local SSDAB multiplexes: ABC[5] , Moorlands DAB[6] and South Cheshire DAB[7] the station reaches over 640,000 adults.
The station broadcasts in both DAB+ and DAB currently and is also available on smart-speakers, mobile app and online via the stations own website and also via platforms such as Radioplayer.
The majority of the presenters previously worked for the now closed "Signal Radio" or at BBC Radio Stoke. The presentation team includes: Dave Johnson[8], Kevin Fernihough[9], Paul Farclough[10], Jason Hardy[11], Lee Finan[12], Pete Morgan[13].
Local News and Information
[edit]From 7am until 6pm on weekdays, the stations own news team prepare local bulletins and these are followed by national news at the top of each hour provided by Radio News Hub[14]. The stories are also uploaded to the website.
The station broadcasts from several studios across its transmission area, including locations in the city, Staffordshire moorlands and Cheshire. Presenters have access to a wide range of local information to pass on to listeners including a local what's-on diary, traffic and travel information and much more.
The Community Call-Out feature runs throughout the day and gives local charities and non-for profit organisations the opportunity to tell listeners about their organisations on-air. There is also a much longer interview with the organisations hosted on the stations website.. Many of these interviews are arranged with Support Staffordshire[15]
